Learning and improving

Lets assume that tech strategy is in place, right people hired and trained, performance practices are in place - tech part of the organization works. What else is needed?

As discussed, every tech initiative should bring value to the organization itself, directly or indirectly. As we live in the changing world, what seemed perfect yesterday, might become a different thing today. A financial or political crisis might happen, a new disruptive competitor may change the industry any day, etc. Even if the changes are evolutional, they are changing environment with time. It is better to be ready to the new reality before the competitors do, but how?

In any of the scenarious - sustaining or disrupting - we migh find useful to regularly monitor what is happening outside of the tech part of the organization. There should be a constant loop monitoring where our company is going, what changes in technology it might require and how we should prepare. As for the outside world, learn from the best and attentively monitor the challengers - this is the recipe I would recommend.
