NFV is a generic, but very broad term. Many foundational technologies and related products are from IT and cloud worlds. For example, OpenStack - the one of the most used solutions in NFV architectures. It is developed in open community, but there are "carrier grade" distributions for telecom market, other ones are "enterprise-ready", proprietary products with OpenStack core, etc. A collaboration between different development branches speeds up adoption of OpenStack components everywhere regardless of whether they were originally developed for NFV or for another purpose. The same is happening everywhere.
NFV is originated in telecoms, but as the ecosystem grows, many things are being adopted in other industries and markets.
